Welcome to the October's edition of 2020's Investor Intelligence newsletter.

It's been yet another month of market volatility and it's feeling a lot like groundhog day. In his commentary this month, Michael offers his view on the inevitable Greek default. Also this month we introduce the latest series in the Macquarie Flexi 100, open for investment until 23 November.
MARKET UPDATE
Offshore events dominate market sentiment

September saw the sixth consecutive monthly decline in the Australian sharemarket. The S&P/ASX 200 Accumulation Index traded in a fairly wide range and declined by 6.1% in the month as a whole. Sentiment continued to be dominated by offshore events rather than domestic economic indicators and company news flow.

MICHAEL'S COMMENTARY
Greece: no longer a question of if, but when.

Whilst investors continue to worry about a default by Greece the market has both risen and fallen dramatically with movements of 2%-4% daily. It seems the question is no longer whether Greece will default, but when.

INVESTOR EDUCATION
APRA Financial Assistance Levy

In April, the Federal Government issued a grant of approximately $55 million to benefit members of super funds that were affected by the collapse of Trio Capital, to be funded by way of a special levy on all APRA regulated super funds. For many super funds, this was a one-off deduction from the unit price of investment option(s). We have included the Assistant Treasurer's press release to provide you with more background information and recommend contacting your super fund to find out how this levy was imposed on your investment.
