Michael Lannon has more than 20 years experience in the financial services industry. He commenced his career in the financial services industry in 1987 with Merrill Lynch Canada as a Financial Consultant. In 1991 he relocated to Sydney and took up the role of International Financial Consultant with Merrill Lynch International advising individuals and corporations on investment opportunities in global markets. His financial training at Merrill Lynch included US and Canadian securities courses as well as the widely recognised Merrill Lynch Financial Consultant Training Program.
After leaving Merrill Lynch to focus on opportunities in the Australian investment services marketplace, Michael founded 20/20 Investment Services Pty Ltd with the goal of giving Australian investors direct access to many of the financial products that were available only through commission based advisers. Over the years, 2020 DIRECTINVEST has evolved into a boutique on-line investment distribution company, giving Australian investors direct access to superannuation funds, unit trusts, margin lending, on-line share trading and cash management trusts with a focus on consumer education.
Michael is a vocal critic of the financial services industry for its level of fee disclosure and has presented and written a number of articles on the need for better disclosure from fund managers and financial planners. He strongly advocates education of the consumer as the key to eliminating fee abuses and therefore empowering investors with the knowledge to effectively make their own investment decisions. Michael has been a regular columnist in both the Australian Dental Association’s “News Bulletin” and recently in Australia Medical Association’s “Australian Medicine” providing articles on a variety of investment topics.
