Forest Enterprises Australia (FEA) is prominent in the agribusiness sector as a leader in forestry and forest products, in particular sawn timber and wood fibre products. It has been operating since 1987, with roots in the cultivation and management of hardwood plantations. Today FEA is a publicly listed company that has recently expanded to capture the timber markets as well.
FEA’s credentials as a successful fund manager are evidenced in the extent of its operations: over $225 million of funds under management on behalf of over 8,000 investors. Its plantations span over 42,000 hectares in Tasmania, NSW and Queensland.
As a group of companies, FEA’s divisions include: FEA Timber, FEA Plantations and SmartFibre wood fibre products. FEA is well positioned to take advantage of expanding growth in these markets:
- FEA Plantations – Since 1993, FEAP has successfully managed 15 forestry projects and raised over $288 million in capital.
- FEA Timber – As the timber products and trading division of FEA, FEA Timber manages the production and marketing of eucalypt plantation hardwoods and other timber products.
Demand for its timbers is expected to increase alongside global demand. Investors will be participating in projects that value the importance of environmental sustainability. Eucalypt hardwood plantations are especially beneficial as they are a more viable alternative to logging native forests. They also help restore water quality and the wood fibre from eucalypt plantations require less bleaching and chemical inputs in the manufacturing process.
