As one of Australia’s oldest companies, Gunns Limited lays claim to years of experience and expertise in the production of hardwood forest products. Founded in 1875 by the Gunn brothers John and Thomas, it has grown to become the country’s largest fully integrated company. Its divisions include timber, veneer, forest and retail, which have all contributed to a turnover of approximately AU$700 million. Its  knowledge of the industry has enabled the company to become leaders in understanding the market by sourcing the best designers and manufacturers in both domestic and overseas markets.
  • Timber division - Gunns’ sawmill operations are located throughout Tasmania and Western Australia. The produce from the sawmills go on to become value-added hardwood products such as laminated beams, mouldings, tongue and groove flooring and furniture components.
  • Veneer division - Two veneer factories are located in Tasmania and another in Christchurch, New Zealand. The veneer factories complement the existing timber operations and have enabled Gunns’ current position as the largest producer of sliced veneer in Australia and NZ. The veneer processes are particularly renowned for their innovation in the production process. Its success has secured Gunns Veneers current position as Australia’s largest producer of sliced veneers.
  • Retail division - Gunns’ extensive range now includes hardware, tools, timber, building materials, gardening products and home wares, among other numerous products.

Gunns has a proud history in its approach to sustainable forest management and environmental controls. Its operations are certified to the ISO 14001 standard in order to meet global standards of sustainability and environment management.
